How about a frisbee-catch event? Do you have lots of space? Maybe folks could bring their dogs to compete in a frisbee-catch tournament or something, and you could sell souvenirs and whatnot?

Maybe like five bucks to enter your dog in the event, and allocate 25% of the take towards prizes, the rest goes into your rescue group fund. something like that, maybe?

Maybe others will just want to watch other dogs in the competition, and not bring their own dogs...so you could sell tickets...rent some cheap bleachers or something....

Lol, a dog wash.

Try holding a dog walking parade, or something!

no, really a dog wash during summer is a good idea....around two years ago
my church group held one along with a frisbee contest in a park, and we made
around 200 dollars from the dog wash alone. Of course, the the neighborhood had
a lot of dogs.... just put up a lot of fliers.

Kudos to you for dealing with rescued animals. I have several dogs that have been "rescues." It is because of people like you and me that so many unwanted animals are able to find loving homes. But I think the greatest satisfaction is when I can let people know of the atrocities that occur in the puppy mills. So many people are unaware of the background of that "cute doggy" in the pet store window.

For those interested, here is the story of just one who was rescued:

And for those who devote their lives to rescue, here is a version of the Rainbow Bridge poem that applies:
